A story that will lift your spirits and give you hope.

Victory Over Cancer by Joseph Marx wasn't what I was expecting, it was more then I hoped for. After devouring this book, highlighting passages that I found important to me, I had to stop a few times to think back on my beloved family members that had lost the battle to Cancer. Thanks to author Marx who gives us his well documented story, I now realize how far we have come in helping ourselves overcome the once thought of incurable disease.

Yes, we do need the help and advice from trusted doctors but Marx has given us the alternative methods that could change the difference of the life and death battle with Cancer. I was also encourage by the fact that the story was laced with Bible verses of hope and encouragement along with the power of prayer shared with family and friends.

This book is set up in a format that tells us the battle that Marx was having, then explained how and why he chose the methods that he used. I was blown away by the powerful effect of diet changes and just letting go of bad habits. Finding the right treatment centers that will work with you and your healing is of the utmost importance, as surgery might not always be the first thing to do.

Loved the back of the book, as it has extensive information of types of foods we need to take a second look at. This book is not only for those going through Cancer treatments, but for those who are willing to first trust in God for wisdom and getting on the right path to a healthier lifestyle that will benefit you personally. An amazing, encouraging story.

Wow, what a fascinating read! It is quite clear that the author has spent an extensive amount of time on research. I enjoyed the fact that he walks the reader through his experience, even down to what his doctor visits and treatment were like. There is some really interesting info in this book, including the steps you can take after a diagnosis, what kind of things cause cancer, and what supplements and dietary changes you can make while undergoing treatment. There is even a section about what to do if your cancer comes back. This book is packed with great info, whether you, or a loved one, are a cancer patient, a survivor, or a person who simply desires to be educated about the basics of cancer and what you can do about lowering your risk.

Thank you Joseph Marx, for allowing me to join you on your journey as you share your story! As a cancer survivor, I am more than happy to sing the praises of this book. Victory over Cancer is an enlightening and encouraging look into the author's battle, and ultimate victory, over this insidious disease; cancer. Mr. Marx shares invaluable insight into how our diets are such an important factor in our physical well-being. In this book you will also find tips to assist you in maintaining spiritual and emotional balance in your life, both before and after diagnosis. This book will serve as a great tool for anyone who is at risk for contracting cancer (meaning everyone). Victory Over Cancer provides dietary tips and holistic alternative treatments along with preventive methods that can be incorporated with traditional treatment. The great thing is that you do not have to take the author's word for it. He provides excellent references. For the diligent individual who insists on doing their own research, Mr. Marx points you in the direction of valuable information.

Mr. Marx's writing style is easy and casual. He shares his story with an openness that encourages the reader to believe that they too can be victorious over cancer. The scientific information is laid out in an unintimidating manner that the average layman can understand. I am happy I found this little gem and I will recommend it to my family and friends. Because I am a cancer survivor and I know the importance of diet and exercise, coupled with spiritual and emotional stability, after diagnosis, I am giving this book five stars and recommending it as a must read to all cancer patients and those who love them.

Not what I expected

I am disappointed with this purchase. It's mostly about rebuilding motors. I wanted details to work on the interiorinterior, wiring, etc. Also, really written for the Z. It's mostly for the G35. It's almost like the Z was an afterthought.

Haynes Manual for Nissan 350Z

I have used Haynes manuals for 25 years and cannot say enough about them. When Chilton purchased Haynes I assumed the quality of the product would diminish. I was correct. Haynes manuals are written with a complete tear-down procedure. Photos, photos, photos, you can never have enough photos of what the author is attempting to explain to you and Haynes always comes through! I purchase one of these for every car I purchase and have done my own mechanic work for over 30 years successfully!

There are a number of well written "how-to" business start-up books on the market. Building A Profitable Business does a very nice job of being detailed and thorough while retaining ease of comprehension. I use it as a text for high school age students in a youth entrepreneurship education program. Students report it to be easy to follow and informative. The material is easily adaptable for people of differing levels of background and experience. It is useful tool to employ if one is interested in the nuts and bolts (and beyond) of starting a business. The book includes forms and additional resource information which makes it a recommended volume for the beginner and intermediate level business "wanna be". As a business plan forces an individual to think about their business dream in an organized manner, this book takes one on a logic-based tour of issues to be addressed. It provides valuable information in a "user friendly" manner. The section on Personnel, as example, includes a sample help-wanted ad and a list of illegal questions to avoid in the applicant interview process. The section also includes sample forms which would be very useful to the entreprenuer who is considering making their first hire. Adult fairy tales don't get much better than this

Right up front I should admit, I'd never heard of Neil Gaiman before I read an enthusiastic newspaper review about this book and decided to preorder it a few days ago. Last night, it was wirelessly delivered to my Kindle and this morning, I picked it up and started reading. Almost instantly, I was so absorbed and lost in the storytelling experience that I didn't do anything else until I finished it a few hours later.

It's a short book; it's enchanting; it's very well written...definitely top-quality fantasy literature. I'm not a fan of fantasy literature, but this book swept me away into such a delightful and fascinating series of incredible adventures--or should I say misadventures--that I could not pull myself away. The author is correct to warn that this is not a fable for children...the reality is far too stark and dark, and there are definitely some adult themes.

"The Ocean at the End of the Lane" is a tale about a lonely bookish seven-year old whose life takes a terrifying turn into a dark and creepy reality. The child is never named, but in recent interviews, the author admits that this child is very much like he was at that age. The child lives in the lovely English countryside of Sussex--the same environment where the author grew up. And like Gaiman, the child is wise, responsible, and moral beyond his years. The parents are blithely confident that nothing bad could happen to their brilliant bookish son in such a bucolic setting. But of course, bad things can, and do happen, especially to the pure and innocent...

The parents have no idea that the Hempstocks--an eleven-year-old girl, her mother, and grandmother--who live by a pond at the end of the lane, are really a group of immortals who play at being human. Our seven-year-old child makes friends with the girl, Lettie Hempstock, and she introduces him to the pond, which is really an ocean. Eventually, our narrator and Lettie take a trip into a higher plain of reality that is entered somehow through the property owned by the Hempstocks, and so begins a series of remarkable misadventures with unforeseen consequences.

This novel is a heroic tale about the age-old battle between childhood innocence and mythic forces. The book will charm you, fill you with awe, make you feel on edge, surprise you, and make you want to keep on reading no mater what important obligations you might have waiting for you to accomplish.

Since finishing the book this afternoon, I was so curious about this fine writer that I started doing research into his life, philosophy, and writing. It seems that in prepublication interviews, Gaiman says that he's prouder of this particular work than anything else he's ever written...and, as I learned today, this is an author who has had an insanely prolific career spanning blockbuster successes across a large number of different creative media. He says he's put an enormous amount of effort into writing and rewriting this book in order to get the tone, words, and dramatic focus just right. A number of critics have already said they consider this work to be as close to sterling literary fiction as Gaiman is ever likely to get.

Indeed, I was very impressed. For me, this work is, without doubt, first-rate fantasy and escapist fiction...and very fine literature, as well. It delivers a highly imaginative, fabulous and fascinating fable that envelops, and attempts to explain, everything in the space-time continuum. Yes, it's that ambitious! It had me hooked from the first to the last page. Simply put: it is an incredible gem of a novel.

A Magical World of Childhood and Monsters
By run slow, finish whenever
This is my first Neil Gaiman novel and I was thoroughly impressed. This is a beautiful work of fiction that takes the familial tragedies of the common child and creates an otherworldly tale to explain it all. The writing is simple but it draws a powerful response from the reader and brings you back to your own fearful childhood experiences. Reading the book was like sitting within yourself as a child again, not understanding the things around you but knowing enough to be afraid. Being afraid but not being heard. Heard, but not believed. This book is quite different from what I usually read but I am very glad I picked it up because the surprises it held were truly a treat.

Neil Gaiman is one of those modern authors I automatically categorize as classic. I've loved his previous novels and all his little projects in between, and The Ocean at the End of the Lane solidifies his position as one of my all-time favorite writers.

Through a drowsy, overwhelming narrative, we follow the sudden, startling recollection of one man's past—one that is all of magical, terrible, and sobering. While visiting the little English country lane of his childhood, our unnamed protagonist reunites with a familiar face who prompts him to think of an old friend he hasn't thought about in years. Upon remembering one thing, he remembers everything.

Vividly Proust-like and told in calm, focused prose, this novel submerges readers into the sweet, wise, sometimes wondrous, and sometimes frightening mementos of a forgotten childhood, while expertly capturing the one-track mind of a seven-year-old boy. His memories immerse us into a world that is all of strange, fantastical, but still utterly believable—as well as introduce us to an intriguing character, Lettie Hempstock, who teaches us the most valuable lesson about being a friend.

The fantasy setting of the child's experiences is out of this world—literally. I don't know how Gaiman comes up with the most bizarre concepts and the most sinister of villains while still managing to sound so real, but he does it beautifully. The story definitely has dark undertones, but it is masked by the naïve tranquility of an ignorantly blissful child. Not only is this aspect of magical realism so smoothly incorporated, but the injustices and powerlessness of childhood are also exquisitely portrayed. Gaiman reminds us of what it is like to be young again—and through this reliving, we are forced to consider the underestimated wisdom of children, and the overlooked foolishness of adults.

Stylistically, The Ocean at the End of the Lane is quite easy and straightforward; at less than 200 pages, it is a slim volume—but it has a huge impact. In the veins of Marcel Proust and Georges Perec, Neil Gaiman acknowledges the sheer power or memory, imagination, and wonder, while providing a haunting reflection of what it means to remember, and what it means to forget.

Verdict: Imaginative, chilling, and mournful to a past life, The Ocean at the End of the Lane is a powerful novel about the importance of stories, seen through the impressionable, vulnerable eyes of a nameless child. The book juxtaposes supernatural occurrences in a contemporary setting to create the ultimate urban fantasy world, with splashes of nostalgia added in between that really disorient the plot's flow. Told in Neil Gaiman's trademark voice—so dark, but so eloquent—that made Stardust a huge hit, this #1 New York Times Bestseller is completely deserving of its widespread praise. I loved this book; it is all of gloomy, heartbreaking, and magical; in the end, it is completely hope-filled.

Rating: 9 out of 10 hearts (5 stars): Loved it! This book has a spot on my favorites shelf.

Suspenseful, but I'm not happy with it.

I started this last night and finished this morning. That's how much i was into this. The prologue alone gave me goosebumps and I was able to see the creepy skinny hands and felt the fear of hiding out in a closet. After that the book starts off in 1st person with the mother as the narrator. I enjoyed her POV the most. It was understandable and relatable, unlike the other POV. When Julie returns home after so long, you immediately start to wonder if she is an imposter or not. After that, we get the POV of several versions of this "julie" it was too hard to keep track of. While interesting to know where she has been and the life she has suffered through, it was also all very confusing. The time line was kind of messed up, or just difficult to keep up with. The change of names too. In the end when it is all out in the open, I am left unsatisfied. It isn't good enough. Not at all. Yes it was tragic and interesting as hell to find out eventually what exactly happened to her, but it was all kind of shady after *** the escape*** I don't get why she didn't go back. The whole charlotte thing was confusing af! and to finally get to this ending: all of the stories and pov didn't mean much anymore- it was irrelevant. I didn't like her attitude, it was too mean for her to be who she really was. Also the part where she gets her hair dyed and is freaking about the roots? at the end, I'm annoyed that the author tried to fool me because in the end it was also irrelevant and a lie to distract me. So what if janes shoes were distressed and not naturally out worn? seriously? I feel like the author tried to mislead us with false information. overall i enjoyed the book because it was definitely suspenseful, but I am not happy about how things ended. Yes I would still recommend it.

Two words come to mind: Confusing and Ridiculous!

This book has great reviews so perhaps it's me and not this book or maybe I've just read too many suspense novels to appreciate this one.

My biggest problem with this book was how completely confusing it is. This story is told through multiple point of view's which is something I normally love but it was not executed very well here. Point being that one of the characters goes by a different name in each of her chapters and within those chapters you meet other people (more names!) that have no other place in the story. I kept asking myself who the hell are all these people??? I've never seen so many names thrown around.

I also didn't buy any of the ridiculous plot. The ending was terrible which I will spoil below. You've been warned.

You can't expect me to believe all the holy roller crap at the end, do you? This girl willingly left home to be with some dude from a church group who ended up being a total creep and then she escaped but didn't return home rather she became a prostitute and then started stripping for a living only to become a front woman in a band while manipulating tons of people in the process was only looking to find Jesus because her parents were atheists. Haha, that is funny.

Wow! You are a nursing student. What a challenge! During our years as nursing faculty we have seen many successful students. This text is our way of helping you to successfully graduate from nursing school.

The second edition of our book incorporates some new chapters and some revised chapters. We made these changes based on input from students and others who reviewed our book. Here are some of the changes:
* Learning Styles and information on Web Courses have been added (Chapter 1).
* We have included a new chapter on Time Management (Chapter 2).
* Ethics and delegation have been added to the chapter on Legal/Ethical Concerns (Chapter 9).
* Another new chapter has been added on Alternative Therapies (Chapter 21).
* All of the Web addresses have been updated and more have been added (Chapter 35).

Do not expect this to be a typical text on a specific nursing area. Rather, it is a resource for some of the more difficult foundation material generally covered in early nursing courses: knowledge that is used in multiple nursing settings. This book will not be able to replace detailed textbooks or class attendance. You will still need to read your textbooks, participate in the learning laboratory, and put time and energy into written assignments.

We anticipate, however, that this book will help you by presenting the highlights of these challenging, yet essential, topics. You will notice that this book is different from course texts in three additional ways.
* The format is flexible: some material is in typical narrative format, some is in question and answer format, and some is in outline or bulleted (list) format.
* Many areas are written in "conversation" style, as if we were with you in a learning environment.
* Some chapters are very short.

In addition to the difficult topics, we have also included guidance in some areas that tend to be stumbling blocks to success.

As with many professions, knowledge learned today in nursing is often outdated by tomorrow. New technology and research is occurring at an alarming pace. So what does this mean for you? Well, several things. First, you must understand this phenomenon and accept it. Second, when research supports new knowledge and techniques, you must be able to release "old" knowledge and ways of doing things. Third, you must keep on top of these current changes through multiple means: reading your professional journals, attending conferences, and searching the Internet for credible new information and technologies.
