This is a very helpful phonics book for ESL students ...
By Stilley
This is a very helpful phonics book for ESL students who want to learn the alphabet and how to read. This book is very basic. There are very few instructions/guidelines/activities. I believe there is a teacher companion book that would provide more guidance if needed.

Must-have for pre-literate adults
By Darcie Hammer
I have experimented with many textbooks for adult refugee students. By far this book is the best out there for pre-literate adults. Not only does it teach phonics, but it teaches the most common words, phrases, and questions in a very practical way. I saw my students learn to read and improve their communication skills in leaps and bounds. I strongly recommend purchasing the teacher's manual too because it gives a large variety of fun and engaging activities.

A solid base for teaching literacy to non-English speakers
By Shaun Roundy
This book contains a highly effective set of progressive lessons for students who are not literate in their native language. I appreciate that it not only teaches literacy including abc sounds, basic phonics, and sight words, but the activities also lead refugee and immigrant students to develop basic vocabulary and speaking/listening skills at an appropriate level.
Literacy students respond very positively to the book and the creative communication activities in the teacher's guide. I look forward to discovering what Book Two provides to assist teachers in planning and classroom activities.
