Not like you have a choice if you're taking the class...

I will say this, "Abnormal Psychology: An Integrated Approach" is certainly one of those textbooks I'll hold on to and read again after this semester is over. The information is easy to imbibe and the presentation, frankly, makes the book easy to read. I've found myself for the first time in a long time ahead of the class readings, and I got the book late!

Needs no introduction - the ultimate teaching tool for abnormal psychology

I feel the need to preface this review by pointing out that I suspect any comment I provide, positive or negative, will be unlikely to sway anyone. This textbook has become a mainstay in psychology courses in North America and, I'm happy to learn, in Australia and has represented a required purchase for cash-strapped undergrads for many years. What I can say, though, is that this book is one of my only undergraduate purchases that remained in my library through my graduate years and since, as a registered clinical psychologist. I cannot emphasize emphatically enough the depth and breadth of information within this book, peppered with demonstrative case examples, current research trends, and only the most important core clinical features of each presentation reviewed.

If this book has one flaw, it is in the first and final chapters, which deviate from the discussion of groups of disorders and talks again about the greater practice of psychology. While I can find no specific error within these chapters, they cover material that are better covered by other textbooks covering different material and I'm hard pressed to agree with the fact that they belong in an abnormal psychological curriculum specifically. The book should stick to what it's good at, and what it's good at is reviewing the clinical presentations of different families of psychological disorders.

Barlow and Durand represent titans in the field of clinical psychological research and they certainly bring their wealth of knowledge and experience into the pages of this book.

Wonderfully written and current with most recent DSM very interesting

This book was for my abnormal psychology class at University. For a current university class, this is one book that you can't get away with using an old Edition of, as it matches the DSM which is updated occasionally and recently ( although I must say and that old editions of the DSM are very interesting in order to compare the changes and transformations in diagnosis and the way society looks at mental issues). this book goes with the most current DSM update. I learned so much from this book, it is filled with interesting case stories and all sorts of facts and tidbits. It reads in an interesting and easy way. this abnormal psychology class was one of my very favorite college classes. the only problem with this book (as tends to happen with large college books filled with a lot of information) is it can tend to be a little heavy and cumbersome. I do not think that is a fault of the book, the book itself is absolutely wonderful, thats just what happens in college you have to carry around heavy books. I will keep and cherish it for many years! So no, you cannot buy my used copy ;) I also have to say that you do not need to be enrolled in a college psychology class in order to enjoy this book , this book would benefit anyone who is interested in the information.

About the Author
Robert A. Divine Robert A. Divine, George W. Littlefield Professor Emeritus in American History at the University of Texas at Austin, received his Ph.D. from Yale University in 1954. A specialist in American diplomatic history, he taught from 1954 to 1996 at the University of Texas, where he was honored by both the student association and the graduate school for teaching excellence. His extensive published work includes The Illusion of Neutrality (1962); Second Chance: The Triumph of Internationalism in America During World War II (1967); and Blowing on the Wind (1978). His most recent work is Perpetual War for Perpetual Peace (2000), a comparative analysis of twentieth-century American wars. He is also the author of Eisenhower and the Cold War (1981) and editor of three volumes of essays on the presidency of Lyndon Johnson. His book, The Sputnik Challenge (1993), won the Eugene E. Emme Astronautical Literature Award for 1993. He has been a fellow at the Center for Advanced Study in the Behavioral Sciences and has given the Albert Shaw Lectures in Diplomatic History at Johns Hopkins University.   T. H. Breen T. H. Breen, William Smith Mason Professor of American History at North­ western Uni­ versity, received his Ph.D. from Yale University in 1968. He has taught at Northwestern since 1970. Breen’s major books include The Character of the Good Ruler: A Study of Puritan Political Ideas in New England (1974); Puritans and Adventurers: Change and Persistence in Early America (1980); Tobacco Culture: The Mentality of the Great Tidewater Planters on the Eve of Revolution (1985); and, with Stephen Innes of the University of Virginia, “Myne Owne Ground”: Race and Freedom on Virginia’s Eastern Shore (1980). His Imagining the Past (1989) won the 1990 Historic Preservation Book Award. His most recent book is Marketplace of Revolution: How Consumer Politics Shaped American Independence (2004). Hal Williams is professor of history at Southern Methodist University. He received his A.B. from Prince­ ton Uni­ versity in 1963 and his Ph.D. from Yale Uni­ versity in 1968. His books include The Democratic Party and California Politics, 1880–1896 (1973); Years of Decision: American Politics in the 1890s (1978); and The Manhattan Project: A Documentary Introduction to the Atomic Age (1990). A specialist in American political history, he taught at Yale University from 1968 to 1975 and came to SMU in 1975 as chair of the Department of History. Gross is Professor of Law and History at the University of Southern Cali­ fornia. She received her B.A. from Harvard University, her J.D. from Stanford Law School, and her Ph.D. from Stanford University. She is the author of Double Character: Slavery and Mastery in the Antebellum Southern Courtroom (2000) and ­ numerous law review articles and book chapters, including “‘Caucasian Cloak’: Mexican Americans and the Politics of Whiteness in the Twentieth-Century Southwest” in the Georgetown Law Journal (2006). Her current work in progress, What Blood Won’t Tell: Racial Identity on Trial in America, to be published by Farrar, Straus & Giroux, is supported by fellowships from the Guggenheim Foundation, the National Endowment for the Humanities, and the American Council for Learned Societies.   H.W. Brands Henry William Brands was born in Oregon, went to college in California, sold cutlery across the American West, and earned graduate degrees in mathematics and history in Oregon and Texas. Rethink your choices.

I didn't purchase this book from Amazon, but rather through my college bookstore. I am the sort to enjoy history. I like reading about it, watching documentaries, and I regularly listen to history podcasts.

This book is terrible. I do not exaggerate when I say this is the worst history book I've ever read. The writing is disjointed, with jarring interruptions were it is noticeable when they switched authors. The flow of the text makes it frustrating to read, even if you are trying to be interested in the subject matter. But even the subject matter seems to be glossed over in favor of small editorializations. Critically important figures are glossed over with a sentence or two, while dates and locations are barraged at you, often without even the real significance.

It is so terrible that I have come here to warn you, a prospective student for a class which uses this book, to change classes to one that does not use it. If I can save just one soul from having to go through the torment that is reading this book, writing this review was worth it. Do it for yourself, do it for the love of history, do it for the love of loving history, but avoid this book.

About the Author
Rowena Surguy Womack was born during the Great Depression with tuberculosis and re-contracted the disease at the age of twelve. She spent three years in isolation at the Irene Byron sanatorium in Ft. Wayne, Indiana, one of the youngest patients ever treated for pulmonary tuberculosis with pneumathorax treatment. Despite these early health setbacks, Rowena maintained a thankful spirit and determination to succeed, graduating in the top ten per cent of her high school class, excelling in speech, debate, writing, music and mathematics.
For fourteen years she was a single mother with five sons and a daughter, and today she counts many grandchildren and great grandchildren in the family fold. A cancer survivor, she remains the thankful spirit, guided by her Christian faith. She finds joy in the smallest details of life too, much as a child might do. Rowena is the author of the children's books POPCORN and YELLOWSTONE MOOSE, and the scheduled 2014 releases GOOFUSUS ETC and BALLS.

Excellent Resource for Dog Owners who Want to Learn Massage for Dogs

This book is the most useful guide I have found for canine massage. I have a large dog who loves being stroked, and so I decided to take advantage of that and learn as much about canine massage in an effort to help him with relaxation as well as rehabilitiation. This book is replete with detailed diagrams that show the skeletal and muscular anatomy of dogs so that a layman (like me) can read this book and immediately apply the techniques effectively.

From personal experience, I have been able to use the massage techniques learned from this book to relax my dog during thunderstorms, and to help relieve muscle spasms that occur (which I believe are related to his arthritis, as he is a canine senior citizen).

This book provides straightforward instructions along with detailed diagrams to speed the reader's learning curve, and I highly recommend it.

Aside from everything else, I am able to now spend time giving my dog a gentle, loving massage, just as a gesture of love. It is so nice to know I am easing away his physical tension as I massage, and his 'sighs' of relief as I work my way along his body give me the approval responses I need to know I'm doing the right things, and I know I've hit a home run when he starts to snore!

This book is phenomenal. It doesn't treat you like you are a complete idiot which is its first attribute. Then the instructions are very simple and easy to understand. The pictures have got to be the best part of it all. Really easy to understand. HIGHLY recommend this book!

Good Textbook

I am not a big fan of quantitative analysis, but I had to take the class for my MBA. This book was very well written, and it does a good job of explaining how to do the problems that are being discussed. The pictorial diagrams in the book was also very helpful in showing the steps that are needed to get the answer that you are looking for. This book offers many other places to go and gets some more help with statistics. This book is a very good book for students have a background in calculus based statistics as this is an advanced book, but it is a great textbook. Anyone who has to take quantitative analysis and this is your textbook you should buy it here you will get a better price.

Software Corrected for the 11th Edition-- ignore old reviews!

I've taught both MBA and Master's in Management classes online and physically at MIT, Harvard (GE Crotonville) and Phoenix State University. There are a group of about 3-5 texts that are now the most popular for graduate Quantitative Analysis (QA). These include the Swift text (most popular in Europe) at from $40 to $80 US (Quantitative Methods: For Business, Management and Finance), the Render Quantitative Analysis for Management text (Quantitative Analysis for Management (11th Edition)), $175 for the 11th edition, and the very thorough but NOT for self study Anderson text (Quantitative Methods for Business (with Printed Access Card)) for $250.

QA is a really tough course for people with less math background such as liberal arts, nursing, etc. students going for an MBA, and a bit easier for math and engineering majors in undergrad, because it involves modeling, using a lot of fairly advanced math. Typical QA courses include linear programming (not really linear, and not really programming-- it is about objectives and constraints stated algebraically to find "optimal" graphic or corner solutions to problems such as mixing, profit maximization, or cost minimization); queueing problems; statement analysis; Decision analysis; Project Management; Forecasting; Inventory Control; Logistics; Markov Analysis; Stats; Integer/ nonlinear/ goal programming; regression modeling; simulation; probability, and possibly some econometrics. Most grad (MBA) courses don't go as far as differential equation modeling (frequent models in physics, biosciences, ecology, etc).

The Swift and Render texts are the most popular, and the Anderson text a distant third according to publisher's (QA!) data on course use and sales. Both Swift and Render are frequently zinged in reviews for broken or less useful software and models, but this is an unfair criticism. Swift gives numerous (although London oriented) model examples, and Render has their own internet models available. The reason both of these criticisms are unfair is that there are numerous plug ins for Excel that do all the analysis, statistics, programming solutions, etc. you will need regardless of which text you use. The Library Picks team chose Render as the top pick, but due to expense, if you're doing self study, Swift is also a good bet.

If the included websites, plug ins, templates and downloads aren't working for you from a software/ modeling viewpoint, here is a brief list of outstanding Excel options that will do the same thing, many for free:

These will take care of the problems metioned by some reviewers that it is hard to stay up to date on models. In particular, Microsoft has now migrated their SQL server business analysis package to a new language called DAX in the FREE Excel plug in PowerPivot. These plug ins, many free on the web, will work perfectly with the examples in Swift and Render so you don't have to sweat the included QA software if it crashes.

One caveat: many reviews complain about QA software with "bugs" when in fact it is the reviewer's computer at fault. To run modern QA programs with lots of modeling, you need a modern dual core processor with at LEAST 8 gig of ram, preferably 12 or 16. The reason for this is that with pipelining, the old "math coprocessor" hardware has given way to sharing between CPU and GPU for floating point, and recent software-- even SPSS -- will crash older machines or appear to be buggy. Excel with a plug in also is a great answer to this, because you can get away with much less power if your machine is already doing well with Excel. PowerPivot is intensive, but only if you have huge amounts of data. The typical mixing problem is no problem even with a computer that's say, post 2009.

At the start of Butcher's absorbing fantasy, the first in a new series, the barbarians are at the gates of the land of Alera, which has a distinct flavor of the Roman Empire (its ruler is named Quintus Sextus and its soldiers are organized in legions). Fortunately, Alera has magical defenses, involving the furies or elementals of water, earth, air, fire and metal, that protect against foes both internal and external. Amara, a young female spy, and her companion, Odiana, go into some of the land's remoter territories to discover if military commander Atticus Quentin is a traitor—another classic trope from ancient Rome. She encounters a troubled young man, Tavi, who has hitherto been concerned mostly with the vividly depicted predatory "herdbanes" that threaten his sheep as well as with his adolescent sexual urges (handled tastefully). Thinking that Amara is an escaping slave, Tavi decides to help her and is immediately sucked in over his head into a morass of intrigues, military, magical and otherwise. Butcher (Storm Front, etc.) does a thorough job of world building, to say nothing of developing his action scenes with an abundance of convincing detail. This page-turner bodes well for future volumes.

I've given up on the series, I'm sick of getting strung along.

I read the first four books of the series. It's fairly formulaic. There's an idea, a whole lot of foreshadowing, you get close to the truth, there's a sudden interruption that delays the expose, by the time he gets to the point the mystery and magic has been beaten out of the concept. The coming of age tale slowly progresses. This would have been an awesome trilogy. There was just enough original content to spread across three books. I found myself skipping and skimming through chapters that involved two of the characters, because nothing at all happened without a two page repetition of how very much the two characters adored each other. A whole lot of filler words that weren't especially moving. I found myself internally screaming at the author... "We get it already, you've told us ten times before!" 51% good, 49% filler.

Good read but...

I decided to start reading this book after reading "The Cinder Spires: The Aeronaut's Windlass" and I really enjoyed that one so decided to give this one a try, I was not disappointed. One word of warning, if you like to see a story arc conclude before you get thrown a new one, this book will probably annoy you in that case, it jumps perspectives right as something good (read as exciting) is about to happen to one character or another. That said I never felt that the interludes lasted long enough for me to lose to much of the suspense I felt from where it ended, but some of it was lost or mixed in with the suspense created from the "interlude", I call it an interlude but in reality you are following different characters that are well written and interesting, personally I have a tendency to get attached to one character or a group and I want to get their story and not everyone else, again that is just a personal tick if you can call it that. All in all I would recommend the book if you enjoy fantasy and don't directly dislike jumping perspectives.

Mediocre Start to an Excellent Series

The Codex Alera is a six book series. The series as a whole is quite good. The first book is not. It is a mediocre book that was supposedly written as part of a challenge. The story goes that Butcher claimed that he could write a novel based on two lame concepts chosen by the challenger. The lame concepts were "lost Roman legion" and "Pokémon." The series as a whole transcends that questionable beginning, but the first book is not very strong.

Harry Dresden fans will be expecting a witty, clever book with lots of complex, memorable characters. You won't find any humor in this series. The first book is cliché riddled (a lot of plot elements seemed to be drawn straight from Star Wars, of all things). In the first book, at least, the characters are two dimensional and unoriginal (especially some legionaires who pop up late in the book).

Having said all of that, the six-book series is definitely worth it, and so I recommend this book. This book introduces the major characters (Tavi, Amara, Bernard, Fade, Fidelias, Isana, Doroga, Kitai) and sets the stage for the six-book story arc. All of these characters become much more interesting in the following books.

Butcher departs from the first-person perspective of the Dresden novels, and he actually pulls it off fairly well. Beware, however, that he "lies" to you from the third person perspective on a couple occasions. The character may perceive XYZ to be the truth, and this is presented as fact. Then it turns out that XYZ is wrong. I perceive this as Butcher adjusting a bit awkwardly to a format in which we are not seeing things from a first person perspective in which the narrator (Harry) is surprised to be wrong.

A holistic introduction to the life and thought of Machiavelli.

In Machiavelli: A Beginner's Guide, Cary J. Nederman provides a re-examination of the life and thought of Niccolò Machiavelli, the early 16th century Florentine political theorist, "derived from the full range of Machiavelli's writings" (p.xi). Throughout this holistic analysis, Nederman provides a broad systematic understanding of Machiavelli's theories and their possible application. Nederman's work can be divided into three sections: chapter one (pp.1-27) provides an introduction to the historical context of Machiavelli's writings to illustrate the circumstantial development of Machiavelli's thought; chapters two to five (pp.28-114) define and discuss some of the core concepts of Machiavelli's political theory; and chapter six (pp.115-129) explains how Machiavelli's writings have been conflictingly received, and how his theoretical method might be applied today.

Nederman argues that in order to understand the thought of Machiavelli as expressed in his writings we must understand his historical context. There exists little information about Machiavelli's early life save his birth (1469) and difficult family situation recorded in his father's journals. We receive more information about Machiavelli's professional career from 1490. He served as a diplomat and militia captain for Florence until 1512-1513 when he was exiled by the Medici family upon their return. Machiavelli primarily wrote in exile.

Nederman therefore believes that Machiavelli wrote to regain the political influence he had lost (pp.8-16, 19). Thus, Machiavelli's earlier and more major writings such as The Prince and The Discourses were intellectually innovative and complex, though initially unsuccessful. Later writings such as the dramatic comedy Clizia did obtain attention, and The History of Florence commissioned by the Medici who had exiled Machiavelli led to newfound respect. However, that also ended in 1527 when the Medici family was, again, exiled from Florence. As Nederman notes, the republic that Machiavelli so advocated ironically ultimately turned on Machiavelli in the end, him dying that year.

Having given the historical context of Machiavelli's writings, Nederman provides a systematic, intertextual analysis of the core concepts of Machiavelli's political theory. Initially, Nederman argues that Machiavelli was not irreligious as such. Machiavelli was not opposed to the Christian worldview per se, but he adopted a neo-pagan, political utilisation of Christianity. Thus, divine providence is not missing from his words. Nederman also suggests that Machiavelli's view on Fortuna is also based on his religious assumptions. Fortuna in Machiavelli's thought is a fickle force beyond absolute human control. It is, as Nederman explains, a fundamentally pessimistic speculation predicated upon Machiavelli's Augustinian view of the inherent wickedness of human nature (p.31). The role Fortuna plays is a `supernatural power' (p.34) which must be co-operated with or overcome through the free will and of human beings with the help of God (pp.44-49). But metaphysical deductions are not necessarily true; Fortuna pertains to the ebb and flow of contingent historical events. Yet even history is under divine providence. Such quasi-religious Fortuna influences the people who in turn must responsibly correct and direct Fortuna through virtù, discussed in chapter 3. Virtù, says Nederman, refers to skills or adaptability to Fortuna, not moral goodness. In The Prince for instance, such virtù may utilise necessary evil to maintain a principality. A prince possesses virtù just if he is able to adapt to or dominate all circumstances prescribed by Fortuna (pp.74-77). Virtù is something attained--not inherent--to us (pp.58-62). Whether or not Machiavelli's views on what constitutes virtù constitutes an `ends justify the means' ideology (something Machiavelli never said), and given the complexity of Machiavelli's thought, that would be an oversimplification indeed. Nevertheless, the use of necessary force is a central theme to his politic. Nederman's holistic intertextual analysis of a variety of Machiavelli's major and minor works suggests that Machiavelli's governmental theory is predicated upon the essential contention that all that is necessary to be done to protect the state in any given Fortuna must be done by virtù--be it republic or monarchical. Deceit, violence and law are all means to an end in their proper context. Such themes are introduced just enough to get a grasp for their controversial nature, yet to allow room for further research. Indeed, although he is often perceived as amoral, "Throughout his writings, Machiavelli takes care to very carefully distinguish between two very different sets of purposes and consequences. Moreover, he evaluates specific historical circumstances of regimes according to their success at attaining the goals inherent to them, yet without declaring unconditionally that one goal is to always be preferred over another" (p.95). In other words, deceit and violence etc. are not an absolute law, but of necessity only, much like Roman dictatorships. Moreover, it is better that a republic of commons executed such necessities; absolutist monarchy could easily become tyranny. This is indeed a belief "drawn from the lessons of history and experience" (p.114). Indeed, later, Nederman disputes the contention that Machiavelli was `Machiavellian' as such, but rather a man of his times (pp.119, 122).

Nevertheless, Machiavelli's sentiments were received very differently, as the sixth chapter discusses. Though Machiavelli found critics in some churchmen like Cardinal Reginald Pole of England who criticised Machiavelli's work as "the finger of Satan" (p.116), he found defenders in other early-modern European intellectuals who supported "Reason of State" whereby the sovereign power could utilise whatever was necessary to maintain the principality (pp.117-118). Altogether, the reception of Machiavelli's works "does not constitute a monolithic or unilinear narrative. He was read from multiple perspectives and was judged (positively or negatively) according to a number of divergent standards. This situation continues to the present day" (p.118).

Nederman advocates a pragmatic usage of Machiavelli's theorisations. Machiavelli remains grounded in his context, but he is not irrelevant. His pragmatic principles of necessary action, and the application of historical deductions (which informed Machiavelli's view of human nature and the consequences one might deduce from the actions one takes) is essential (pp.124-125): "Machiavelli believes that our understanding of human nature and consequent modes of conduct yields considerable information about reasonable expectations concerning political affairs. The past forms a bridge to the future" (pp.127-128). Thus, a political methodology predicated upon Machiavelli's utilisation of caution according to the flux of the wheel of Fortuna being the norm appears sustainable (p.129).

Overall, Nederman's intertextual holistic approach to Machiavelli applied theoretically presents the reader with an essential understanding of Machiavelli's enduring importance. Further study will assist readers obtain a more critical examination of the debate surrounding Machiavelli and the meaning of his writings. All this fulfils the scholarly commission Nederman intended at the beginning of his work (pp.viii-ix, 115, 128-129).

Purpose
This is a guide to navigating the professional challenges and opportunities pharmacists encounter. While pharmacy education is comprehensive and rigorous, there is no formal training on how to manage one's pharmacy career. This book fills the gap and offers practical advice for young pharmacists. The authors are willing to share their own heartfelt stories with the hope their experience can help new professionals. The book is captivating and provides invaluable lessons. As a practicing pharmacist, I agree with many of the sentiments shared by these extraordinary pharmacists. This wisdom can certainly help young pharmacists embark on a successful career path.
 
Audience
The letters are written specifically for young pharmacists or for pharmacists seeking a new career path. However, the book is interesting for any pharmacist regardless of their experience. Perhaps the key is that readers be open-minded and determined to become successful leaders in the profession. This is a prevailing theme of the book: that all pharmacists are in a position to lead and to effect change. In order to do so, one must be motivated to accept various opportunities as they arise. Another common theme is the importance of mentoring and teaching other pharmacists; these pharmacists are certainly willing to mentor in terms of sharing their personal stories.
 
Features
Perhaps what is most intriguing about this book is that it provides an insider's view of the life stories of 35 accomplished pharmacists from various settings. Much of the advice they offer comes only from personal experience or in very close, professional relationships. Therefore, the life lessons and secrets to success are essential to a young professional. Some of the topics they cover include overcoming adversity and challenges, the importance of professional relationships and mentoring, working to effect change and finding the right job fit. Each chapter opens with the pharmacist's background and one key piece of advice. Their letters are written openly and discuss some very important strategies to succeed and to be happy as a pharmacist. Perhaps most importantly, all of the authors speak positively about the profession and the opportunities that lie ahead for their junior colleagues.
 
Assessment
I found this book an enjoyable and inspiring read, a must-have for new pharmacists hoping to be leaders in the field. Ever present themes are a passion for pharmacy, a motivation to effect change, and being true to one's professional and personal beliefs. Young pharmacists can learn critical life lessons, both good and bad, from those who have experienced them and have triumphed.

About the Author
Susan Cantrell , BS Pharm, CAE,
Senior Vice President and Managing Director, DIA Americas. As the first regional Director for North America, Susan works with the Advisory Council of North America and its Content Advisory Committee to develop DIA’s overall strategy for this region. She is also responsible for outreach to regulatory and other government agencies (such as the FDA and NIH), and related associations, and will divide her time between worldwide headquarters in Horsham (PA) and Washington, DC. As a regional director, Susan also serves on the Global Management Team, responsible for helping to coordinate DIA enterprise resources and policy from an operational perspective.

Prior to joining DIA Susan was with the American Society of Health System Pharmacists, a professional society for whom she worked for 19 years in a series of progressively responsible positions. She most recently served as Vice President of Resources Development, where she led the Society’s efforts in domestic and international business development. Prior to this, she served as Managing Director, ASHP Advantage, a division of the society that developed and implemented accredited educational programs to assist pharmacists and health professionals. Susan brings significant experience in pharmacy practice, health care delivery and policy, and association management, including a substantial background in professional education, large meetings, business development, and volunteer engagement.

Susan is a member of the Alliance for Continuing Medical Education, the American Society of Association Executives, the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists, and the International Pharmaceutical Federation. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy from the University of Mississippi, and has completed a residency in hospital pharmacy. She is pursuing graduate training in public health at the University of North Carolina. Susan’s numerous honors include the 2010 Alliance for Continuing Medical Education President’s Award.
 
Sara J. White, MS, FASHP
Sara is  currently Faculty for the Pharmacy Leadership Academy.  Since retiring in 2003, she has published a series in the American Journal of Heath-System Pharmacy entitled Success Skills and co-edited the ASHP Pharmacy Leadership Field Guide, Cases and Advice for Everyday Situations (ASHP 2011). She has developed and recorded Conversations with Health-System Pharmacy’s Most Influential Leaders through the ASHP Foundation’s Leadership Center. In 2004 Sara was an ASHP Foundation Scholar in Residence on Pharmacy Leadership. From 1992 to 2003 Sara was Stanford Hospital and Clinics, Director of Pharmacy and Clinical Professor, UCSF School of Pharmacy. She was Associate Director of Pharmacy and Professor at the University of Kansas Medical Center from 1972-1992.  Sara completed a BS in Pharmacy from Oregon State University, MS from Ohio State University and an ASHP accredited Residency at the Ohio State University Hospitals and Clinics.  Sara has been active in local, state and national professional organizations having served as President of the Kansas Society of Hospital Pharmacists and the Greater Kansas City Society of Hospital Pharmacists She has served on the ASHP Board of Directors, Chairman of the House of Delegates and ASHP President. Her contributions have resulted in the ASHP Distinguished Leadership Award and the Harvey A.K. Whitney Lecture Award.
 
Bruce E. Scott, RPh, MS, FASHP

Bruce currently serves as President of The CADENT Group, providing consultative services to health care business and provider-related organizations. He has served in executive roles at Allina Hospitals and Clinics, McKesson Medication Management, and Medco Health Solutions. Bruce is a past-president of both the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists and the Minnesota Society of Health-System Pharmacists. He is a recipient of the John Webb Lecture Award from the Northeastern University College of Pharmacy
