From School Library Journal
Gr 5 Up-Michael Ende's beloved fantasy (Doubleday, 1983) about a young boy who becomes a mighty hero in the story he is reading gains vibrant new life through this fantastic audio. Narrator Gerard Doyle transports listeners into the beautiful and dangerous world of Fantastica, a land filled with dragons, giants, and monsters, providing each character with a distinct voice and making the imaginative landscapes feel like tangible places. Some familiar only with the movie version (Warner Home Video, 2001) may be disheartened to learn that the well-known children's film only loosely adheres to the book on which it was based. But most will be thrilled to learn that the Neverending Story continues long after Bastian bestows the Childlike Empress with her new name. Whimsical creatures abound and exciting surprises await listeners at every turn. As with any hero's journey, an important-and hard-won-lesson must be learned before Bastian's quest can be completed. Although originally intended for young audiences, this timeless fantasy will thrill listeners of any age and continue to enchant them for generations to come. The only drawback is the audio's inconsistent volume. Overall, this epic tale has everything a fantasy enthusiast could wish for and more. Love this book
By Keen07
NO SPOILERS!!! My husband first read this book in German, while living in Germany. He had seen the movie when he was little and thought the book might be as entertaining. Well not only was it entertaining, but it was so much better than the movie. He loved the book so much that he bought an English version for me and told me that I had to read it. This book is unlike anything else I've ever read, its a story within a story. The magical world that Michael Ende creates is captivating. The characters are well thought out, and it's hard not to fall in love with them. We are now reading this to our little children and they are enjoying it just as much as we did. I highly recommend reading this story, by yourself, or to your children.

One of my favorite books
By Michael
As an avid reader, I can honestly say that this is one of my all-time favorite books. The story is compelling and well-written, and as I read it I got very attached to the characters. If you like the movie, you should read the book that it is based on. The book is very different from the movie in a lot of ways, especially since the movie ended the story about halfway through the book. If you didn't like the movie, I strongly recommend reading the book anyway because as I mentioned before, they are very different in many ways. This is a children's book to be sure, but in the same way that The Hobbit is a children's book. It's written for a child audience, but it is still a masterpiece that can be enjoyed by people of all ages. If you enjoy fantasy stories, this is one book that you should read in your life.

Good but quality could improve
By Just Ben
5 stars for the company that made it and customer service. 2 stars for binding. 5 stars for staying close to the in story description.
This is not the double day edition from the 80s. This is the Dutton Childrens book edition 1991 first edition.
Double day had red and green ink this one has purple and green. The double day edition has better ink and paper quality. If it had been the double day edition it would be worth the price.
The binding is hobby store quality. It could be improved. I have seen this leather ina hobby store as well. I think the leather is deer skin. Not the best for quality because it gets dirty fast. Meaning it soaks up skin oils. It will be an effort on my part to keep it clean.
Improvements that could be made:
1. Lower the price the way it is or
2. Bind it better and make the end papers the silk/satin more the way it was described in the book.
3. To keep this price i would recomend using the double day edition. i know it cost more but it can be had in poor condition for $20. restore it to its glory.

I personally feel that i paid way way too much for this book. But i keep the 4 star rating for the fact that this was the only company that would be kind enough to take the trouble to make this. They know this is only for the fans or who else would pay this much for a book they never read.
With all that said. I feel this book will be cherished none the less. It could be improved but i am willing to live with its faults.
To potential buyer:
Get this book if you feel like you cant live without it. Im hitting it hard in this review only because i have restored books in terrible condition and improved them better than this one is in. the double day edition in hardcover can be had in new condition for the same price as this one.
Now on the upside the Auryn on the cover is exactly like the one in the film. It also comes with an extra Auryn to be worn around the neck.
its not worth $200 to me but thats just me. I hope that this helps a little. The previous reviewer was satisfied so you probably would be to if you purchased this book. Im being a little too hard on this i know.
