About the Author
Robert Slavin is director of the Center for Research and Reform in Education, Johns Hopkins University, director of the Institute for Effective Education at the University of York (England), and chairman of the Success for All Foundation. He received his Ph.D. in Social Relations from Johns Hopkins in 1975, and since that time he has authored more than 200 articles and book chapters on such topics as cooperative learning, ability grouping, school and classroom organization, desegregation, mainstreaming, research review, and evidence-based reform. Dr. Slavin is the author or -coauthor of 20 books, including Cooperative Learning, School and Classroom Organization, Effective Programs for Students at Risk, Preventing Early School Failure, Show Me the Evidence: Proven and Promising Programs for America’s Schools, Two Million Children: Success for All, Effective Programs for Latino Students, and Educational Research in the Age of Accountability. In 1985 Dr. Slavin received the Raymond Cattell Early Career Award for Programmatic Research from the American Educational Research Association. In 1988 he received the Palmer O. Johnson Award for the best article in an AERA journal. In 1994 he received the Charles A. Dana Award, in 1998 he received the James Bryant Conant Award from the Education Commission of the States, and in 2000 he received the Distinguished Services Award from the Council of Chief State School Officers. He again received the Palmer O. Johnson award for the best article in an AERA journal in 2008, and received the AERA Review of Research award in 2009.

I am very unsatisfied with the purchase of this Kindle ...

I am very unsatisfied with the purchase of this Kindle book. I initially downloaded the textbook to my phone, before I knew that I am only allowed one download. I cannot understand why I am not allowed to read this book on more than one of my devices that I own. I have never had this issue with Amazon Kindle before, and now I am stuck reading my textbook on my phone. I called customer service twice to resolve the issue, and was left without being helped. I would return the book, but then I would not have a textbook to use for my class which I am currently taking. I can say that I am not please with Amazon or Kindle products at the moment. I would give this book zero stars, but that is not an option. I will never buy a Kindle book from amazon again.

It takes a lot more than just lesson designing or making units for the classroom for students to be successful. Understanding how students think and learn is critical for student success. This book is a great resource for gaining knowledge of using best teaching practices. I used this book a lot each year of my teaching career. There are so many different types of students and it can be overwhelming. This book helps gives ease to help your students succeed.

By about 30 pages in, Mollen has resorted twice to the “there are two types of “___s” gambit (in addition to simply calling others, “the type who”) and tried to shock-jock the reader’s pants off by declaring her anorexic temptations scarier than a concentration camp, comparing a bad romance to a “fiery plane crash into a tall building,” and deciding that a former boyfriend (unfindable on social media) killed himself. And she’s anorexic and bulimic in somewhat graphic detail. And she has a long way to go to becoming a current L.A. writer, actress, and (per the jacket copy) “one of the funniest women on Twitter.” She can be funny, but her shticks and tics are lazily apparent. And for her worldview (and memoir) to work, everyone she deals with has to be missing a bolt or two as well (e.g., “All the Best Men Are Either Gay, Married, or Your Therapist” and “Nobody Wants to Be Your Fucking Bridesmaid” and “You Were Molested”). I really wanted to like this book

I really wanted to like this book, but guess what? I've read it. It's all her blogs from Playboy's Smoking Jacket. Jenny seems like she'd be so much fun to know, but after the eighth story of her narcissism and "quirkiness", mixed in with what a stalker she appears to be, I got over it real quick. Just google her name along with the Smoking a Jacket and you've saved yourself ten bucks.

She's like your crazy girlfriend who is so much fun, until she's not. Until she is just crazy and you stop answering your phone when she calls. I'd love to see her at a party because she is outrageous and funny, but she reeks of danger and sometimes while reading the book, I wanted to put it down and walk away from it lest some of her crazy rubbed off on me.

About the Author
Peggy N. Kerley is a contract litigation paralegal, working with the law firm of Weil, Gotshal & Manges, and a former paralegal instructor at Southeastern Paralegal Institute, in Dallas, Texas. She has more than 45 years of legal experience. Ms. Kerley received her undergraduate degree in political economy from the University of Texas at Dallas, and her paralegal certificate from the University of Oklahoma. She is also the author of another paralegal text, Employment Law for the Paralegal.

Joanne Banker Hames, J.D., is a retired Paralegal Coordinator and full-time instructor for the paralegal program at DeAnza Community College located in Cupertino, California. She is currently a part-time instructor at the school. She earned her J.D. degree from Santa Clara University School of Law and was admitted to the California Bar in January 1972. She has been an active member since that time. For several years Ms. Hames was employed as an attorney in a busy litigation law firm. During that time she was involved in all aspects of civil litigation, including pre-trial preparation, jury trials, and appeals. For the past fourteen years she has been involved primarily in paralegal education, teaching at DeAnza Community College and previously at Santa Clara University Paralegal Institute.

Paul Sukys, J.D., Ph.D., is a Professor of Philosophy, Law, and Legal Studies at North Central State College in Mansfield, Ohio. He also teaches as an adjunct professor at Ashland University and Mount Vernon Nazarene University. Dr. Sukys received his bachelor's and master's degrees from John Carroll University in Cleveland, his law degree from Cleveland State University, and his doctorate in philosophy from The Union Institute and University in Cincinnati. He is a member of the Ohio Bar, the Ohio State Bar Association, the Society for Ethics Across the Curriculum, the National Business Education Association, the Society for Interdisciplinary Studies, the Society for Literature, Science, and the Arts, and the Lakeside Chautauqua Literary and Scientific Circle.

Excellent Treatment of Topic of Posttraumatic Growth - Provides Real World Examples

What Doesn't Kill Us: The New Psychology of Posttraumatic Growth is the best book or artical I have read on the subject.

This is a must read for anyone who is or has experienced PTSD and for their family and friends as well. This book provides a wide variety of excellent examples of people both male and female who have experienced Posttraumatic Growth (PTG) allowing the reader to easily identify a person/case they can relate too and perhaps model on their way to PTG. At the same time the author provides numerous methods to help the reader find a method they are most comfortable with so that they can more rapidly recover from traumatic experiences.

The author backs up all of his assumptions/conclusions with real world research which makes this a valuable asset to the library of a clinician and or student entering into an examination of this important topic. Please know that the research and statistical information provided does not take away from the personal tone the author takes or the ease of understanding provided.

An original: A unique and new perspective on trauma recovery

Without reservation, this is one of the most valuable books on trauma because of the unique contribution it offers practitioners. Drawing in part from Positive Psychology, the theory of post-traumatic growth adds a new and unique perspective to existing, traditional trauma theory--that trauma survivors can heal and grow beyond the bounds of simple recovery. This book is rich with case studies and research from the author's own work and those prominent in the field of PTG. I've referenced this book for my own wellbeing as well as for my work in leadership coaching and in teaching and leading trauma recovery workshops..

Started slow, but wound up highlighting a lot.

Good book. The first couple of chapters were a little slow but then it picked up. The insights into trauma as it relates to people's worldview were insightful.
